Police Verification
Step-by-step guide to the mandatory tenant verification process in Karachi.

What Is Police
Verification?
Police verification is a mandatory background check for all tenants in Karachi, required under the Sindh Rented Premises Ordinance and enforced by the Sindh Police. The purpose is to maintain a comprehensive record of all tenants for law and order.
Typical processing time: 7–14 working days
Documents Required
Have these ready before visiting the police station.
Original CNIC (copy retained by police station)
2 passport-size photographs of all occupants
Copy of signed rental agreement
Previous address proof (utility bill or NADRA slip)
Landlord's CNIC copy for cross-verification
Property ownership documents (provided by landlord)
The Verification Process
Landlord Initiates
Your landlord fills out the tenant registration form and submits it to the nearest police station along with all required documents.
Document Submission
Both tenant and landlord documents are submitted together. The police station accepts the documents and issues a receipt.
Police Visit
A police officer may visit the property to verify the details provided in the application and confirm tenant identity.
Background Check
The police run a thorough background check through their criminal records database and NADRA systems.
Verification Certificate
Once cleared, a verification certificate is issued confirming the tenant is legally registered at the address.
What If You Skip It?
- Landlords face legal penalties and fines for not registering tenants under Sindh law.
- Tenants may face difficulties if stopped for routine identity checks by authorities.
- In case of any security incident, unverified tenants face serious legal complications.
- DHA administration may take disciplinary action against landlords who skip the verification process.
Landlord's Responsibilities
- Initiating the police verification process at the local station.
- Providing property ownership documents for verification.
- Notifying the police when a tenant vacates the property.
- Keeping copies of all verification documents for records.
Online Option
Some areas now offer online tenant registration through the Sindh Police portal. Check availability with your local police station.
